VisionDevCamp is an upcoming not-for-profit developer event focused on creating applications for Apple Vision Pro and visionOS.
Who: Developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts of Apple Vision Pro and visionOS, supported by a team of experienced volunteers.
What: A not-for-profit developer event focused on creating applications for Apple Vision Pro and visionOS. The event will take place from Friday through Sunday, with attendees working together over the weekend. Development projects will include both solo and team efforts. While some attendees will wish to work solo during the event, we encourage attendees to team up, based on diverse and complementary skill sets, to work in ad-hoc application development teams. All attendees should be prepared to work on a development project during the event.
Where:
UCSC Silicon Valley Extension
3175 Bowers Ave, Santa Clara, CA 95054
USA
When:
March 29-31, 2024
Why: Because we’re excited about the possibilities of Apple Vision Pro and visionOS. Our all-volunteers team has been hosting not-for-profit developer events since 2007, including iPhoneDevCamp, iPadDevCamp, and iOSDevCamp.
How: A not-for-profit event run by volunteers and paid for by both sponsors and attendees. The goal is to make the cost as low as possible for individual attendees to focus on making great applications. We’ll provide you with space, food, power, Internet, and networking opportunities. You’ll provide your time and bring your own equipment to make the magic happen.
Registration is open using the VisionDevCamp registration form on Eventbrite.
Cost is $100 USD (covers food for the entire event). In the early days of iPhoneDevCamp, the event was entirely free to attendees, with costs incurred by the event sponsors. Follow-on events had a shared cost model for both sponsors and attendees. As this is a not-for-profit event, sponsors and attendees will help to pay for the costs to operate the event, with all event staff and organizers acting as unpaid volunteers. Our goal is to make this event as affordable as possible.
Access to Apple Vision Pro hardware will be a requirement to effectively participate in the event. This doesn’t mean that you need to personally own a device to attend, however. We hope that teams will have at least one device per group, but this will require a critical mass of device owners to attend the event. We hope that device owners will make up a significant portion of the attendee base. To support this need, device owners will be given preferred access to the event. If you plan to purchase an Apple Vision Pro—and we wholeheartedly recommend that you do—please plan to bring it to the event. No attendee will be asked to lend their device to anyone or let other people use it unless they’re comfortable doing so. A wearable is a personal device.
Demonstrations of the Apple Vision Pro hardware are not the purpose of this event. This is a working event for developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to create applications. Please don’t attend if your primary motivation is to “try out” the Apple Vision Pro. We need attendees who are committed to joining teams and making applications—not running device demos for curious onlookers. The Apple Store will be a much better opportunity to demo the hardware in the proper setting.
Founders of VisionDevCamp include Raven Zachary and Dom Sagolla, two of the creators of iPhoneDevCamp, iPadDevCamp, and iOSDevCamp. Other founders may join us on this journey.
We ask that all attendees adhere to any requirements associated with their Apple Developer Program agreements, including any non-disclosure (NDA) provisions that may be in place at the time of the event. We have no intention of allowing individual attendees to violate the terms they have in place with Apple for the visionOS SDK or other tools. As with all prior years, the event will be above board and adhere to all requirements.
