DevCamp Attendees, visionOS Community Members, and Friends,
In just over four weeks, hundreds of Apple Vision Pro and visionOS developers, designers, and entrepreneurs will be gathering at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension in Santa Clara, CA, for the first VisionDevCamp – the largest gathering of Apple Vision Pro and visionOS developers ever assembled.
VisionDevCamp is a not-for-profit developer event focused on creating applications for Apple Vision Pro and visionOS. Attendees are encouraged to develop native visionOS, Unity PolySpatial, and web applications during a hackathon-style event.
I hope you’ll be a part of the excitement this year. Just over three weeks ago, Apple launched Apple Vision Pro in the United States. This makes it a great time for our emerging visionOS ecosystem to gather together and explore this new spatial computing ecosystem.
We are thrilled to announce that UCSC Silicon Valley Extension will be hosting VisionDevCamp. The event will feature the main gathering of UCSC Silicon Valley Extension in Santa Clara, CA, along with the possibility of simultaneous satellite events to connect developers around the world.
With just over four weeks before the event, now is the time to register if you plan to attend. Space is capped at 200 attendees this year and only those who have registered in advance will be able to attend. As with our prior DevCamp events in past years, the event will likely draw people nationally and internationally. We’ve posted travel information on our website to help with selecting airports and hotels.
Why are we charging a registration fee? As a not-for-profit event, we need to make sure that everyone is fed for the entire duration of the event. $100 guarantees that we can feed all attendees. We’re actively working to get corporate sponsors to help with other event production costs (t-shirts, banners, badges, etc.) and prizes for the hackathon. All money collected from attendees and sponsors will go toward the production of the event. VisionDevCamp is a not-for-profit event and the volunteers and organizers are not paid.
Please note: VisionDevCamp is an event for visionOS developers and designers with some previous experience with developing and/or designing on the platform, using the Native SDK, Unity Polyspatial, or the web. This is not a user event, nor is it a training opportunity. Participants are expected to bring their knowledge and a mindset to extend their skills with connections to other developers and designers. Ideally most attendees will have an Apple Vision Pro device — although this is not a requirement for attendance.
Attendees will include people with a variety of disciplines such as developers and designers, all working together over the weekend. Development projects will include both solo and team efforts. While some attendees will wish to work solo during the event, we encourage attendees to team up, based on expertise, to work in ad-hoc project development teams. All attendees should be prepared to work on a development project during the event with demos and awards taking place during the final day.
We have some exciting things in store this year -— a few things we’re not quite ready to announce — but check back regularly for updates on the event.
